In 2009, post-minimalist composer Eve Beglarian embarked on a year-long kayak journey down the Mississippi River, keeping an aural journal and absorbing the local color. Tonight, she'll join experimental violinist Mary Rowell and perform excerpts of the resulting song cycle to benefit the Avant Music Festival, a five-day celebration of new music. Also featured are avant-garde soundscape architect Randy Gibson and members of the Pierrot Project, performing Arnold Schoenberg's haunting "Pierrot Lunaire," a serialist descent into a world plagued by "giant black butterflies." Anyone who contributes $10 to the Kickstarter campaign gets invited.
