How delicious: Were all cordially invited to a new comedy by Brian Parks, the Voices own arts editor. On the menu at this dinner party: rack of lamb, fresh bread, excellent wine, banter, gossip, slights, slurs, cruelty, and carnage. Described by the playwright as a revenge comedy, The Invitation features a tableful of congenial, cultured men and women (an attorney, a publisher, a non-profiteer, etc.) whose bon mots descend into brutality. Directed by John Clancy, who helmed the popular Parks works Americana Absurdum and Goner, the speedy piece should pack an improbable amount of words into its brief running time. Parks and Clancy regulars David Calvitto, Leslie Farrell, and Paul Urcioli appear in this intermissionless, multi-course meal.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sept. 7-8, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 5. Continues through Sept. 27, 2008
