Francois Moutin Quartet
The bassist blows a whistle and a handful of palswho just happen to be some of the most thoughtful improvisers in townshow up at one of the coziest clubs around. Jean-Michel Pilc, Joel Frahm, and Ari Hoenig will waste no time warming up; they all know each others maneuvers from past romps. Their swinging version of bent bop is the kind of thing that tickles even as it challenges, and this kind of low-profile gig is what makes the local jazz club scene so vital on a regular basis. With Debbie Dean.
