Frank Fairfield & Blind Boy Paxton
An enigmatic young repository of gramophone-era hits, Fairfield picks and sings traditional American folk and blues songs such as "Boll Weevil," "John Hardy," and "Hesitating Blues" with hard-wired familiarity and dusty dignity. Accompanist Jerron 'Blind Boy' Paxton's MySpace page boasts of a sound like "broken glass smothered in molasses," a notion such high-stepping originals as "Reuben and His Morphine" quickly dispel.
