Known for his consummate subtlety, the pianist always keeps his poetic side front and center. Here's a guy who can imply a melody with just a few soft strokes of the keyboard--but I'm also recalling a "Whisper Not," in which he took the title literally and bubbled up a march to the sea. The take-away: Hersch's commitment to dynamics is a deep as his love of nuance. This is a solo show, and he's a marvel alone.
