FRESH TO DEATH
From local, underground bounce classics like UNLV’s Uptown 4 Life to global, platinum-selling records like Juvenile’s 400 Degreez (home of the often imitated, never equaled “Back That Azz Up”), Mannie’s signature scratched “Freh-Freh-F-F-F-Fresh” vocal stamp has appeared on too many great records to count. One of the more overlooked? His own The Mind of Mannie Fresh, an hour-long journey that finds our hero bragging his size (in terms of house, car, rims, and dick), becoming mayor of New Orleans, and fighting to keep Lil Wayne away from the microphone,
rattling subwoofers every step of the way. He may not play any of its 30 tracks tonight at Santos, but with a body of work the size of his, who even cares?
