FRIGHT NIGHT

The 25-year-old Téa Obreht is one of those rising stars (she made The New Yorker’s list of the best 20 writers under 40) who you might say is so good she’s scary (our “Best of New York” issue named her Best New York Writer Young Enough to Make You Slit Your Wrists). So, we suppose it’s only fitting that someone with such terrifying powers should be reading her work tonight at Harper’s Magazine’s Halloween event Monsters: A Celebration of Villainy, Exploitation, and Abuse. The evening’s stellar program also includes 2009 Pulitzer finalist Christine Schutt (All Souls) and Wells Tower (Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned), who also made that New Yorker list.
