Gavin Bryars's 'The Sinking of the Titanic'
Referring to its taped sound effects, sampled tunes, and foggy ambience, composer Gavin Bryars has described "The Sinking of the Titanic" as the musical equivalent of conceptual art. That will ring even truer tonight when the Wordless Music Orchestra and the LPR Ensemble, performing in the round, drift through the 1971 minimalist masterpiece's slowly sinking movements on the hundredth anniversary of the ship's destruction.
