Over the past few weeks, the Generations in Jazz Festival has been taking up much of this club's schedule, but shows like tonights, in which the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra takes cues from the 93-year-old maestro, have kept the event from overstaying its welcome. Wilson's charts are full of swagger, simultaneously heady and breezy. His new disc puts Puccini, Stravinsky and the Chicago Cubs in a kaleidoscope, and it's as fetching as big band albums get.
