According to a report in Billboard earlier this month, Arcade Fire plan to release the follow-up to 2007's Neon Bible in May 2010. That gives the members of London's Fanfarlo approximately six months to endear themselves to American listeners before said listeners start getting their literary psych-folk jams from a superior source. OK, that's kind of harsh—but there's definitely no denying the Arcade Fire comparisons that have greeted Fanfarlo's buzzed-about debut, Reservoir, on which frontman Simon Balthazar croons anxiously about ghosts, comets, and drowning men over his bandmates' elaborate twee-roots arrangements. Local openers Freelance Whales just signed to local indie Frenchkiss Records, which will reissue their self-released debut, Weathervanes, next year.
