One track on the guitarists radiant Hearts Wide Open finds saxophonist Mark Turner getting giddy with his tenor. Hats offHeckelsmans provocative writing allows a sometimes overly cool improviser to reveal a bit more passion. In general, the discs entire program provides similar candor, made by a leader whose heady designs usher in a natural panache at every turn. This is a group that feels just right.
