GOD OF CRAZY

Avant-garde ’til the end, jazzist Sun Ra was loyal to his loves: electric keyboards, fierce aggregation, and claiming he was from Saturn. The band is composed largely of the ’50s ensemble’s original members—tenor John Gilmore and increasingly famous alto Marshall Allen, for two—and their sense of adventure isn’t something they merely remember; it’s as timeless as their fearless leader.
