When he was the drummer-vocalist of post-hardcore archetypes Hüsker Dü, Grant Hart played the role of songwriting foil to the ever-bitter vocalist-guitarist Bob Mould. When Mould frowned ("Celebrated Summer"), Hart would half-smile ("Terms of Psychic Warfare"). Since that band's split, Hart has continued the head-in-the-clouds, semi-optimistic singer-songwriter style that defined Dü's lighter moments. If anything, his music has become more psychedelic over the past two decades (his latest, Hot Wax, also boasts Farfisa organ in spades), but it's still not too much of a stretch from what he did in Hüsker Dü.
