A NoCal youth led the saxophonist to develop myriad interests, and the thrill of jazz led him to investigations of “Persian tones” and the music of his Iranian lineage. The new Post-Chromodal Out! eloquently braids these influences, with echoes of Ornette wafting through ramblings both raucous and refined. Trumpeter Amir ElSaffar and pianist Vijay Iyer are fellow travelers, making this somewhat hermetic music speak volumes.
