Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Richard III — there have been quite a few Shakespeare offerings this season, but nothing that comes close to what Obie-winning director Annie Dorsen has in store for audiences at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Her latest, A Piece of Work, uses a sophisticated algorithm to create a new version of Hamlet every night by shuffling and reordering the words, visuals, music — you name it. Each performance stars one actor (alternating between Scott Shepherd and Joan MacIntosh), a computer screen, and a host of synthesized voices for a most unusual update of the Bard’s classic.
