Musical theater, not exactly the exemplar of chest-pounding bravado, is given the hip-hop makeover in Stateless: A Hip-Hop Vaudeville, an amalgam of live hip-hop, reworked folk songs, and "vaudeville shtick," which was inspired by a true story that weaves German, Jewish, and African-American history with contemporary hip-hop music. Led by songwriting duo One Ring Zero and Felonious, a collective of rappers, musicians, and writers, this will either be an exemplary form of creativity or more like your drunk uncle trying to rap. Judging by the creators' bona fides, we suspect the former.
