German pianist Hauschka is like Eric Satie for the sweaters-and-Converse era, someone who has a preternatural understanding of tender-touch minimalism but also a working knowledge of artists such as Eluvium, Sufjan Stevens, and Tortoise. His most recent album, Snowflakes and Carwrecks, has all the focused energy of a prepared piano piece but doubles as a slow-drifting ambient fog. With Dustin O'Halloran.
