Not unlike Gogol Bordello's (relatively) glossy Trans-Continental Hustle, the new one from Man Man smoothes out some of the rough-hewn kinks in this zany Philadelphia group's junkyard-rock sound. (Notice we said some of the kinks: Life Fantastic still contains a tune called "Bangkok Necktie.") Frontman Honus Honus and his merry men made the album with Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes, who may have promised Man Man a more robust presence on the music-licensing scene; "Haute Tropique," for one, has True Blood written all over it. Whatever the album's sonic refinements, you can expect the band to get as loose as a goose tonight.
