HEAD OF THE CLASS
Los Angeles popgaze trio Autolux are a more finely polished cousin to wooshy blissrock bands like Deerhunter and the Big Pinksplashes of reverb, ethereal coos, enveloping textures, and pedal chains that snake out the door. But while those bands were partying on the lawn of the quad, Autolux were doing their homework for their latest album, Transit Transit, which sounds like their senior thesis on 1986: almost perfectly matching the atonal churn of Sonic Youths Sister guitars, the lethargic cool of Spacemen 3s Perfect Prescription, the goth-tinged grooves of early Love & Rockets, and the many moodiness of whatever 4AD was putting out at the time. Openers This Will Destroy You are similarly dreamy, but are waaaaaay more zoned out on the Kranky Records codeine. With locals Oberhofer.
