If it weren't apparent from Henrik Schwarz's DJ Kicks entry that the man has an eclectic sensibility on the dance floor (mixing James Brown, Pharoah Sanders, and Robert Hood together), then his recent mix The Grandfather Paradox (with fellow house-heads Ame and Dixon) makes the man's grasp of history evident. Moondog, John Carpenter, Arthur Russell, and Yusef Lateef all beckon for the floor, but it's Schwarz's uncanny ability to make it all work together that pushes beyond mere name-dropping. His set tonight is at a venue that was once the Village Gate; this surely won't be lost on the man. With The Chap and Eamon Harkin.
