Emily Wells is a classical phenom with a cutting ear; the multi-instrumentalist raps, plays violin, and loops her own synthesizers all at once into clever, slickly eerie, and occasionally unsettling hip-hop. Hearing a string maven rhyme about Brooklyn and Biggie may verge on parody at first, but her talent carries this strange mission home, and she has this months Sundays residency at the terribly chic Ace Hotel to prove it. Brooklyn experiments gets stranger, but not often.
