HOG HEAVEN

If summer is prime time for pig roasts and barbecues, then it’s only fitting that this Labor Day weekend—summer’s last hurrah—Governors Island will become Pig Island, five hours of nonstop pork creations made by 25 chefs, not to mention local craft brews and ciders. And don’t expect only low-key dogs and barbecue, either: Past years have featured such delicacies as pig pies with melted leeks and Roquefort-fig compote and Rhong-Tiam Sriracha-glaze suckling pig. The stars of this event are 80 locally sourced hogs, but the extensive list of sides and the Veggie Pavilion are there to make sure you pull from all the food groups.
