The homos are feelin hot, hot, hot again, and theyre letting off steam at Dixon Places annual HOT! Festival, a month-long showcase of queer performances. Even DPs new configuration (a 120-seat theater and a smaller lounge) isnt enough to contain the heat—HOT! events are going on all over town, including a cabaret series at Joes Pub and the Highline Ballroom, plus partnerships with the Living Theatre, Bluestockings Bookstore, and CUNY. According to producer Earl Dax, A more risk-averse person might have introduced new elements incrementally over time. My feeling has been: Lets put it all out there. This summers lineup includes some particularly hot stuff, like the fabulous Warhol-era party girl Penny Arcade in a new solo commission Old Queen (July 925); Big Art Groups collaboration with Theo Kogan and Justin Bond on Cinema Fury: The Imitation (July 2); opera-thereminist Armen Ra and Bora Yoon (July 9); and a Monday-night salon series honoring the pre-Stonewall activist group the Mattachine Society.
