Over the past few months, the work of Junior Vasquez, the New York–based DJ/producer whose music has been moving bodies since the early ’80s, has received an unexpected surge in interest. First, Whitney Houston’s unexpected death led listeners back to the four of his remixes that were included on disc two of her greatest hits. Meanwhile, around the same time, his Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York City 1989–92 compilation, a four-LP companion to the book of the same name, hit stores with his “X” tribute to the House of Xtravaganza serving as one of its most essential tracks. Tonight, Vasquez comes to Midtown to mix dance music old and new at District 36.
