I Was Born But…

Class relations enter the family: Ozu called this silent comedy—one of the best movies about children ever made—a “Picture Book for Grown-Ups.” Newly relocated to the outskirts of Tokyo, a pair of hilariously naturalistic grade-schoolers are compelled to face up to their father’s position as a wage slave. The newly restored print has a recorded score.
