IN WITH THE NEW
Sometime collaborators Lou Reed and John Zorn have gotten together to break in a new West Village club. (Le) Poisson Rouge, which stands on the site of the old Village Gate, has had pretty immaculate bookings so farNico Muhly, Damon & Naomi, Bill Friselland its yet to really open; this early September date is something of an official inauguration. Saxophone polymath John Zorn, who presided over the demise of Tonic and the recent rise of Avenue Cs The Stone, knows a thing or two about the ephemeral nature of venues for experimental music in NYC; his partner this evening, Lou Reed, may know even more, having performed in em for over 40 years. Both know a good thing when they see it, which is why theyre here. Zeena Perkins and Ikue Moris Phantom Orchard open; Zorns back on September 4 with Bill Laswell and Milford Graves.
