Indie rock band Islands came from the same masterminds behind short-lived but well-loved lo-fi punks the Unicorns. Although Islands dances between genres far more than the Unicorns ever did, leaping from hooky pop songs to even calypso and avant-rap within one album, the goofy but musically sound heart remains intact. Seven years and four albums deep, Nick Thorburn remains at the helm of the project despite side excursions into bands like Human Highway, Mister Heavenly, and even a “doom wop” project with Man Man’s Honusclearly he’s a musician to keep an eye on.
