It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Dir. Stanley Kramer (1963). This overblown comedy of excessive length is a throwback to the simple-minded slapstick silents of the Keystone Kops era. The plot is a disarmingly simple story of human greed. Nothing is done in moderationall the gags, even the good ones, are overextended. However, Kramer has rounded up an awesome cast of major talentsEthel Merman, Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Michey Rooney, Buster Keaton, Jerry Lewis. And for specialiststhis was the last film worked on by the great Willis O'Brien stop motion genius of the original King Kong.
