It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Dir. Stanley Kramer (1963). This overblown comedy of excessive length is a throwback to the simple-minded slapstick silents of the Keystone Kops era. The plot is a disarmingly simple story of human greed. Nothing is done in moderation—all the gags, even the good ones, are overextended. However, Kramer has rounded up an awesome cast of major talents—Ethel Merman, Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Michey Rooney, Buster Keaton, Jerry Lewis. And for specialists—this was the last film worked on by the great Willis O'Brien stop motion genius of the original King Kong.
