Jenny Owen Youngs
Jenny Owen Youngs graduated from self-releasing to label-signing after the show Weeds featured her beautiful downer, “Fuck Was I,” in 2006. Since that unexpected debut, she’s been on a roll, turning Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” into a song for an indie Valentine’s Day mixtape and consistently churning out uncomplicated but catchy melodies topped with sophisticated lyrics. Her husky voice and insistent strumming might place her in the generic singer-songwriter genre, but Youngs offers a snarky bite that proves she’s not just meant for open mics.
