If you think Bill Frisell has jazz's rural slant sewn up, it's time to discover the Brooklyn saxophonist with the New England roots. The forthcoming If the Past Seems So Bright operates in a hush (think fawn in green glade) and glows cinematic (think theme to pensive car ride) while still providing lots of intricate exchanges and fuzzy crescendos. It's not every popstrumental outfit that offers such vivid moods.
