John Abercrombie Quartet
The action tends to glisten in the wily guitarist’s quartet music. Abercrombie has prioritized lyricism during his several decades as a bandleader, and his pearly runs mix nicely with the wise lines of pianist Marc Copland on the recent 39 Steps sensitivity is everywhere. From the Bacharach nod to the deconstruction of “Melancholy Baby,” the band searches for the kind of consonance that centers on grace.
