Fresh off her entry in the "Music of R.E.M." series at Carnegie Hall, Jolie Holland appears at Michael Dorf's new City Winery space. To be real, it doesn't matter where Holland plays. Her music, so rich with data mined from folk, country, blues, ancient 78s, and fables of the reconstruction, is forever harnessed to the unlimited horsepower of her voice. She makes our world appear in sepia, but then renders that image with a 21st century meta pen. Like M. Ward, a collaborator on her newest album, Holland makes the continuing conversation of Americana new again.
