Jonny Corndawg+Michael Hurley

To call Michael Hurley a vintage vestige of somebody's "old weird America" is, for once, less than a cliche. The singer/songwriter turns 70 this year, so if you haven't discovered this cosmic boho's peculiarly influential hippie hoodoo yet, procrastinate no longer. Marathon runner, leathermaker, and rambunctious Jonny "Corndawg" Fritz flips '80s country cliches on their head in tunes such as "The Torture Chamber," about hell in the afterlife, and "Family Tree," about hell on earth.
