Jose Gonzalez first divined his way as a solo guy, propagating brushed-string guitar ballads from his home base in the mild wilds of Sweden. But hey, it turns out he's never been just that; he's also been in this band Junip all along and, if the gentle brood doesn't fall far from the pleasantly muted tree, it's still pretty damn enjoyable. On Fields, Junip's first full-length, Gonzalez works his way across a gently prickly surface of hazy keyboard accoutrements and percussion that eases nicely into the turns like a bulbous '79 Saab 900. This is well-appointed, intelligent music that indulges in some stargazing prog exploration. With Lost in the Trees.
