B.B. King told a recent Alexandria, VA, crowd that he continues to perform internationally because his great-granddaughter “loves money.” And though we can believe any line the 85-year-old blues icon croons, that joke can’t hold water next to the estimated 15,000 shows the Mississippi singer-songwriter has given over the course of his acclaimed career, one that helped popularize such essential elements of electric blues as string-bending and vibrato. Sorry, King—you, I, and Lucille know you’re in this for the love, not the money—and you should rightly reap plenty of both tonight.
