South Africa's most important vocal ensemble released an album of Zulu children's songs this year, which made sense: they have a broad appeal already, as their lofty lyrical content takes a back seat to their hypnotic harmonizing. Sexagenarian founder Joseph Shabalala is preparing to turn the reins over to his own children, making his project a family affair on both sides. One way or another, this band deserves to last across generations.
