Larry Harlow's Latin Legends Band+La Excelencia
As house producer and arranger during Fania Records' golden age, Harlow was "El Judio Maravilloso" ("the marvelous Jew") of modern salsa. The pianist's Latin Legends Band upholds that sound in all its brawny, brass-and-percussion presence. A violin duel between the great Cuban player Alfredo de la Fe and Brooklyn's Lewis Kahn should enliven the dance party, too. Bronx's La Excelencia consist of young and classy salsa preservationists.
