The comedy circuit isn't always a laugh a minute--it's easy to get crucified for stealing material by your peers (culprit: Carlos Mencia) or, even worse, get called out by the audience for being boneheaded (Michael Richards!). But then there's the reward of simply making people cackle, which can make an average Joe quit the office and take up the comedic stage (John Mayer, don't even think about it). The New York Underground Comedy Festival is a Comedy 101 of sorts, with workshops for newbies as well as showcases for the funniest comedic veterans and those just cropping up. After 10 days, you'll be ready for the big time--or else anxious to get back to your day job.
