With his entry into pop consciousness with his late '70s Saturday Night Live appearances, Redbone appeared seemingly out of nowhere as a wonderfully out-of-step eccentric. He has remained as such ever since, even after doing music for commercials and sitcoms. It's not just his weird outfits or his mysterious background but also his novel, low-key approach and his focus on pre-war (WWII, that is) music. Even if his last studio album was over a decade ago, it seems somewhat appropriate for a guy who's found his own comfortable niche in a time warp.
