LET'S GET PHYSICAL
Back in the ’80s, thanks to workout guru Jane Fonda, slapstick motivational trainer Richard Simmons, and Olivia Newton-John’s pop hit “Physical,” everyone and their mother was working out hard at home to their brand-new VHS exercise tapes with the hopes of squeezing into some Jordache jeans. The Museum of Arts and Design is reviving these classic testaments to American fitness with Sweatin’ to the Oldies, a workout session led by artist Jeffrey Marsh and videos pulled from vintage VHS workout tapes. The footage includes appearances by Simmons, Susan “Stop the Insanity” Powter, and other fitness icons. The question is: Will you be wearing leg warmers, hot-pink spandex, and a side ponytail?
