Not the kind of artist who’s satisfied with a simple gallery show (last year, he turned the face of the cylindrical Hirshhorn Museum in D.C. into a giant multimedia installation), Doug Aitken is now taking to the railways for the nine-city cross-country show “Station to Station: A Nomadic Happening.” Kicking off tonight in Brooklyn, the event features works from artists including Ed Ruscha, Olafur Eliasson, and Urs Fischer, music (No Age, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, and Suicide are all scheduled for NYC), and a “surprise” handed out to guests by the cooking-obsessed artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. Alas, you can’t ride on Aitken’s brightly colored glowing train, but you can see what’s going on aboard it on the website.
