LOVE AND MARRIAGE
Jenny Offill describes herself as a slow writer. And given that 15 years have passed since the publication of her first novel, it’s difficult not to take her at her word. Thankfully, speed and hyper-productivity have never been requirements where literature is concerned, and Offill’s wonderful new book, Dept. of Speculation, about a troubled marriage, is well worth the wait. Don’t miss her reading and discussing the new novel with Lorin Stein, the ever-
urbane editor of the Paris Review. We’re hoping he prompts her to elucidate the finer points of becoming an “art monster,” Offill’s term for those who put their creative pursuits before family, friends, health, decency, and personal (or mental) hygiene.
