Bob Rafelson’s enjoyably dated and sleazy Black Widow gets the midnight screening treatment in IFC’s “Erotic Thrillers” series. The absurd premise, from a Ronald Bass (Rain Man) screenplay, posits Theresa Russell as a “black widow” who marries rich men and then murders them for their money. Throughout the film, she takes on different names (Catherine, Marielle, Margaret) in order to cover her tracks, and her exploits take her everywhere from Seattle to Hawaii. Debra Winger co-stars as the hard-working Justice Department agent hot on her heels. When the two women finally meet, the film’s feminist aspirations fall apart. But the cast — with scene-stealing supporting work from Dennis Hopper, Terry O’Quinn, Nicol Williamson, and James Hong — is always a riot.
