Le Tigre fans wondering if that great New York City trio will ever make another
album are in good hands with JD Samson’s outfit, MEN. Last year, the band released its supersmart debut, Talk About Body, and now, Samson and her chums are in the midst of putting out four follow-up EPs; the second, Time, appeared in May. Like Le Tigre’s best stuff, it’s arty, openly protest-minded electro-punk that never forgets about hooks or grooves. (Samson recruited Alex Suarez to produce Time after writing with his band Cobra Starship earlier this year.) Tonight, MEN plays as part of the CBGB Festival, but they’re more focused on punk’s future than its past.
