For many new Williamsburg residents, the McCarren Park Pool has solely existed as a myth-like monument with graffitied walls and a vacant hole in which hipsters gather for outdoor movies and concerts. Today, almost 30 years since it closed, the pool reopens to a new generation of summer-frolickers. About $50 million went into the renovations to the pool, recreation center, bathhouse, the entry arch, and a new beach-volleyball court. Accommodating 1,500 swimmers, it will double as an ice-skating rink in the winter. We can’t wait to do a cannonball!
