The feisty saxophonist puts together strong bands, and invariably his performances take on an overtly physical feel. It comes from ardor of his horn lines and the vehemence of his cohort. This time out it's a rhythm section of bassist Linda Oh and drummer Justin Brownboth love to amp up the tension by messing with the groove at hand, and Strickland will sanction any action that stirs the pot. Secret weapon? Pianist Gerald Clayton, a marvel.
