A few weeks ago at the Jazz Gallery, the tenor saxophonist snaked around his horn with the SFJazz Collective. On a piece called "Triplet Threat," he put those long fingers to work, making sure each note of the excursion communicated the the exact intended emotion. Hushed tones did crab walks, declarations danced. Phrase after phrase glowed with eloquence. He's one of our most articulate and individual horn players; let's see which way the forever poetic drummer Paul Motian nudges him this week.
