Hooray for Captain Spaulding, Rufus T. Firefly, and the rest! Today kicks off Marxfest, a month-long celebration of all things Marx Brothers. Naturally, there are plenty of screenings, beginning with this afternoon’s A Night at the Opera (at 2, Epiphany Library), as well as live events inspired by the brothers’ comic anarchy. Highlights include Frank Ferrante’s An Evening with Groucho, Pinchbottom’s burlesque tribute The Bawdy House, and the first-ever revival of I’ll Say She Is, the brothers’ never-filmed 1924 Broadway debut. The Bronx Zoo even offers a chance to see an elephant in your pajamas. The “party of the first part,” with cocktails, special guests, and door prizes, commences tonight at 6 at the Algonquin Hotel. The festival will continue this month at various locations.
