MASTER OF DISGUISE
Immensely popular, comically trendy electro-party Girls & Boys is soldiering on for another round. This weekend's kickstarter is JFK, a/k/a Jesse F. Keeler of MSTRKRFT, a/k/a the dude who played bass in Death From Above 1979. No matter what guise this mustachioed rule-breaker is under, one thing remains steady—dude loves chunks of distortion, enormous melodies, and headbanging that ends in a hug. So far, his remixes under the JFK moniker have been a delirious mix of French house, blackened fuzz, crackling feedback glitchery, and high-velocity hip-hop grooves—basically a dirtier, noisier, funkier, uglier unhinged version of MSTRKRFT that might turn the dance floor into a mosh pit if he's not careful. Warming up will be Cali beatsmith 12th Planet whose mix of sirens and fuzz walks a gnarled line between dubstep, hip-hop, and jungle that sounds at once retro and contemporary. Ostensibly a party for JFK's new label Teenage Riot, one of his few signings, St. Mandrew will also man the decks. Webster Hall says "Neat and trendy appearance is a must," so don't dress as gross as this music sounds.
