M'Boom & the World Sax Quartet
Una mas, baby. Say hello to the '70s again. Max Roach's famed percussion orchestra was one of the most playful experiments to ever do business in town back then. With timbales, traps, and tympani (don't forget the glockenspiel), they tattooed a rhythmic imprint everywhere they went. Their occasional partners were the esteemed foursome of the WSQ, who pretty much ruled the jazz roost during that era. From the riff tunes to the polyphony, this week of collaborations will have nostalgia buffs weeping and newcomers creaming their jeans.
